Electric Lady Big Band @ Cheltenham Festival 2022

A 16-piece ensemble featuring an all-star cast of leading jazz improvisors tackle Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 album Electric Ladyland with arrangements by Artistic Director/Guitarist Denny Ilett.

To celebrate Jimi Hendrix’s masterpiece Electric Ladyland, guitarist, vocalist and arranger Denny Ilett has assembled a 16-piece group of leading jazz musicians to set about crafting new arrangements of Hendrix’s revolutionary and iconic music. The band take Hendrix’s rock, blues, jazz, funk, soul and psychedelic elements into a whole new area with rave reviews and sold out shows across the country. Described as ‘a giant joy’ by Jazzwise following their sold-out run at Ronnie Scott’s.

The whole of Hendrix’s pioneering album is played in sequence and features arrangements by Artistic Director/Guitarist Denny Ilett inspired by the legendary Gil Evan’s re-workings of Hendrix in the 1970’s.
